When will my flower bulbs begin to grow?

I'm not sure of the name, as they were given to me. All I know is that they grow nearly 5' tall, have wide, green blades and red flowers. I planted them about three weeks ago, yet they have yet to break the surface. I live in Delaware (zone 7a). When should I expect to see something? I wonder if maybe I planted too deep, or packed the soil too hard....

to give the flower proper water
Reply:Bulbs are normally planted in the fall as they need the cold weather to set. You may get the foliage this year, but they may not bloom until next spring.See this site for more info
