I vowed to name my child after my great-grandfather, Gaylord, and my mother named Flower (actually Fleur, French).
Is this REALLY such a bad name? Won't it give him character?
Is Gay Flower an appropriate boy's name?
If you firmly believe that character comes from taunting and cruelty inflicted upon him by other children and possibly adults, then yes, it will give him character. Unfortunately, that's not the way character is made.
It's just... not a good name for a boy.
Reply:This is clearly a joke. Good one, though.
Reply:I personally like Gaylord Fleur better than Gay Flower ...
I went to school with a Chris Cross and she got teased quite a bit ... I know you are trying to honor people's memory but still, for the sake of your child's well being don't name it "Gay Flower" ...
Reply:You must be kidding, or a very devout hippie. If you name your boy Gayflower, that is what you will get....not that there's anything wrong with that.
Reply:Gay Flower? I think of Gaylord Faulker from meet the parents. I would save it for a girl really it would be much better or u could do one name like Gaylord a middle name then save flower for a girl. Do you plan on having more children bc my opinion I wouldnt name my son Gaylord Flower. Im all about naming after special people in your life. I plan on using my late grandmothers name in her memory to a future girl. However lets say I dont have a girl? I would still find some way to honor her without naming my son Mary. Look up other orgions of those names and maybe you could use something simmilar but I wouldnt name my son Gay Flower unless you want him changing it when he is old enough to change it.
Reply:gaylord will get the kid teased for eternity
Reply:That is really a REALLY bad name. He'll never hear the end of it, and you'll get that look whenever you tell people.
What's your grandpa's middle name?
Reply:yeah, sounds SUPER masculine to me!! LOL
Reply:they will make fun of him based on his name before they even get to know the poor boy. try doing something different.. try at least to partly united some kind of name with the one you want..(two names into one name, mix together) or put a similiar name (similiar in words or pronoucation to the name you like)
for instance.. my great grandmothers name was felicita
and as my middle name my mom named my felisha..
they are two different names but very similiar.. so you can try that..
or like amber being named after abner.. these are kind of similiar too
i can't think of two names that can be united into one.. but you get the point, right ?
Reply:It makes me sad that you even have to ask this question.
What are you trying to do to the poor child?
Do NOT name him this.
Reply:WHO WOULD NAME THEIR CHILD GAY? IF HE WAS NAMED GAY, HE WOULD GET MADE FUN OF IN SCHOOL.
Reply:please spare your child from a life time of ridicule. really in my opinion it is that bad.
Reply:He will be like Johnny Cash's song "A Boy Named Sue." Don't think of doing that to him. Use middle names, but neither of these.
Reply:its fine if you want your child to be picked on all the time...kids are crule so please don't do that to him...
Reply:it is fine if you want your child to be made fun of all the time.
Reply:LOL.. yeah.. good question.
You can give your child whatever name you want, but there will be consequences, both to you and to the child.
Be considerate... would you like it if you were a boy, and your parents named you Gay Flower?
Try this instead... For your great-grandfather's name, change the 'a' to a 'u'... Guy (French name) or Guylord would work for your little boy. More masculine.
And for tyour mother's name.. 'Fleur'.. give it only to your girls if you have more children... it's feminine. It's only given to girls... If you want to give a french name that starts with an 'F' for your boy, try Flannery, Foster, Frasier, Franklin, or Frank. If you must stick to a flowery name for a boy, Fraser or Frasier (strawberry) is the closest boy name in French that starts with an "F".
Reply:That is a REALLY REALLY BAD NAME!!!!!!!!
Reply:sweetie thats not a good name. Yeah you may have promised that you would name your child that but it doesn't have to be the first name.... if you don't feel comfortable with it now what makes you think you will feel any diffrent later?
Reply:This is obviously a joke question
Reply:Have you considered using just the initials instead of the full name. . .For instance G.F and whatever your last name is. Or You Could come up with a cool 1st name use the G.F as a middle name (Good conversation started when he gets older) and then add you last name of course. The history behind the name is awesome and once he ages I'm sure he will appreciate it but I'm not sure it would fly by itself. . .Just a suggestion. . .Good luck with you name hunting.
Reply:I'm sorry, but it is not an appropriate name - he WILL be picked on!!
Reply:That is a terrible name... so... heck NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Didn't you know your grandfather and mothers name before you made such a "vow"?
Believe me in my years as a teacher I have had a "Poppy Corn", and a "Gator Swamp" neither of those children enjoyed middle school due to the taunting and teasing. I would use the Wilbur maybe you could call him "Will" or "Willie" and Fleur is definitely a girl's name but if you are really "VOWED" to the flower part you could find a masculine type of flower... Wilbur Rose? Wilbur Mum (get it the flower after your "mum") I don't know you get the idea.
Please forego the "Gaylord" your child will never live it down and the only character he will get from that name is one that makes him too shy to even give his name aloud. Can you imagine your son at 25 after college looking for a job and going to introduce himself , "Hi, I am Gay Flower and I would be an asset to your company."
If this is a joke (my b/f says it has to be because noone would seriously entertain this name.) But as he kept mumbling, "I'd kill her", tears were rolling down my face. And as it was put best by one responder... "Please don't do that to him."
Reply:no no no no no
Reply:OMG don't do that to your kid
Reply:I would never name my son Gay Flower; the poor kid would be picked on non stop. Go with Wilbur...you could shorten it to Wil.
Reply:please do not name ur child gay flower do u want him to have a hard time in school
Reply:People change their minds all the time......I certainly would in this case....You gotta re think this.....GAY FLOWER....will get your kid killed by the time he is 10.....
Reply:One of my closest friends was almost named Skyblue Freedom. Thank God his parents stopped smoking pot and chose Timothy Ryan instead.
But he says that had his parents given him the first name he either would've had to be the toughest kid growing up... or he'd be a little pansy. Is that what you want for your child? That he has to prove himself to be tough despite the fact that his idiotic mother gave him an incredibly sissy name? No it won't give him character.
Reply:Sure, its a great name if you want your kid to get daily ***-whippings throughout his school career.
Reply:Hahaha...nice try.
